According to LIMRA, the industry's research group, 30 percent of U.S. households have no life insurance whatsoever, and half of all households say that they need more coverage. With this in mind, the Life and Health Insurance Foundation (LIFE) is embarking on its 10th annual Life Insurance Awareness Month (LIAM), with the goal of educating more Americans about the importance of having a life insurance policy.
To take advantage of the fact that LIAM coincides with the beginning of football season, LIFE has chosen former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason to be the month's spokesperson. He has spoken extensively about how he learned a tough lesson about the importance of life insurance at a young age. When he was seven, his mother passed away, leaving his father to raise three children alone. Money was tight for most of Esiason's childhood. This may have not been the case if his mother had purchased a life insurance policy.
This year's LIAM theme is "Life Happens." It is important to remember that even if you are in excellent health and always take the proper safety precautions, life can take unpredictable turns.
